How to fix your RB AFM.

This tutorial will teach you how to fix your AFM. If you are experiencing below, you should really pry open your AFM to check if it is okay:

1)Lumpy RPM
2)Car starts and sometimes won't
3)random stalling.

There are alot more reasons for your car to stall but you should really start with the easy part like checking your AFM as it is the most common cause and easiest to troubleshoot. I know it took a long time for me to troubleshoot my stubborn start, i just got bored one day and decided to cut open my AFM and found that there was a couple dry joints in there. Got it soldered up and guess what, problem fixed!

Anyways,

Tools Needed:
-Soldering iron
-Solder
-Sharp knife or other sharp object
-Black Silicon

1. Remove the afm from your car, the pics show what it looks like.

2. Using a sharp knife, cut away the silicon. I found if you cut straight down on both side of the silicon, more comes out.

3. Once all the silicon is cleared, pry off the lid. It should easily come out.

4. The Following pics shows the joins that dry up and cause the problems. Resolder the joins using fresh solder. Be careful not to hold the iron on for too long as the heat might damage the components inside.

5. To show you the severity of the dry joints, i removed the 4 bolts and easily pulled the whole plug out. All 4 joints where completely loose!! Note that you don’t have to do this, just apply new solder over the whole lot, the old solder will melt.

Also, do this at your own risk; if you cause any damage to anything or anyone by following these instructions, it’s your fault.

About this blog

I'm just an ordinary man, working an ordinary job who just happen to own one of the greatest japanese car ever build.
Although my car has remained stock for some time, there isn't a single day that i do not think about refurbishing it with better and newer parts. Unfortunately due to time and other commitments in life, i just don't have the neccesary funds for my car. Although this has put me off from modding my car, i've never ceased to read on manuals, rebuilds or other stories of people doing a maintenance on their car. I believe, even if i do not have the money for a project, there is no harm in learning.

So here, you'll find one of the most comprehensive tutorials on the RB engines ever tabulated on the internet. If you have a tutorial to share, please do not hesistate to drop me a comment. This site is still pretty new, but i will try to fill it up as much as possible.I reap no benefits in doing so, however if you would like to contribute to my non-existant project fund you're more than welcome to do so.
